At Children’s Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee on Monday 1 November, Cllr Martin-Moran-Bryant asked officers what help parents receive during the admissions process.
Admissions guidance is provided by the Council but they do not produce any data or guidance on school results so parents have to look for this information school by school. Schools are mandated to publish their results data by OFSTED.
However, Chief Officer for Education and Schools, Ben Pearson urged residents who are looking for school places to talk to the headteachers of schools and confirmed that the department is happy to help with any parents who need assistance with looking for school places with their child.
Great Barford Councillor Phillippa Martin-Moran-Bryant also commented: “One of the issues is that some parents struggle to formulate their own questions and I think there should be some sort of guidance from the Borough about what questions to ask so that every parent doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel.”
