The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will allocate £335,779 to Bedford Borough Council in the next financial year to help support victims of domestic violence.
Bedford is one of 120 "tier 1" authorities and the funding for councils is a key element of the Domestic Abuse bill aimed at giving better protection to those fleeing violence.
Conservative Councillor Roger Rigby Chair of Adult Services said “We welcome the Government funding to support Bedford Borough Council helping victims of domestic violence. COVID-19 is having a negative impact and adding to existing problems, this money is vital to ensure those affected have support to rebuild their lives.”
Conservative John Wheeler serving on Children’s Services commented: “Bedford Borough Children Services are doing an excellent job helping children who have to live through these awful experiences and I strongly welcome the additional Government funding.”
