Cllr Jim Weir was elected representative for Kempston Rural Ward in 2019, and the Great Denham Ward in 2023.
Jim has lived in the Borough since 1998 and has involved himself in local matters by chairing Great Denham Parish Council. He understands challenges in education after chairing the governing body at Great Denham Primary School. He also designed and oversaw the building of a new community hall, of which he was a former trustee and treasurer, which has become a great meeting place for local residents.
Jim's background is in transport & logistics. He is a keen reader on a wide range of material and likes nearly all sports, but golf and football top the list. He is married to Catherine and has a son and two grandchildren
Along with the aspirations of all families, Jim wants Great Denham Ward to be a pleasant, safe community that gets a fair crack of the whip and value for residents' Council Tax.
Following 2023 Borough Council elections, Jim took up the position as Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Holder for Environment. During an executive reshuffle in December 2024, Jim handed the reigns of the Environment portfolio to the Independent Councillor, Nicola Gribble. As a part of the reshuffle, Jim took on new responsibilities as the new Portfolio Holder for Finance.
Jim also serves on the Appointments Committee, Climate Change Committee, Community Infrastructure Levy Committee, Executive (Deputy Mayor), Planning Committee, Rural Affairs Committee, Trustees of the Mayor of Bedford's Charity.
