Wyboston Cllr Tom Wootton has welcomed news that improvement works at the Black Cat roundabout are reaching their final stages, with completion hopefully at the end of March.   

The Highways Agency is making changes to the layout of the roundabout that will see the number of lanes increased and traffic signals introduced in an effort to reduce the terrible congestion.  The £5.6m works were funded by the Government’s £317m ‘pinch point’ fund and are being carried out by the Highways Agency.

Cllr Wootton was also pleased to hear of the Government’s decision to allocate £280m funding for the dualling of the A428 from the Black Cat roundabout to Caxton Gibbet, west of Cambridge.  This will ensure that there is a dual carriageway stretching from the M1 at Milton Keynes to Cambridge.

Cllr Wootton said:

‘Anyone like me that has experienced one of the regular traffic jams at the Black Cat roundabout in recent years will know that something had to be done soon.  I am pleased that the Government stumped up the cash for the Highways Agency to make changes and I am hopeful that matters will improve.

‘The Government’s decision to dual the A428 from the Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet is most welcome.  This will improve the link between Cambridge and the M1 of which Bedford is right in the middle.  This can only be good news for jobs and business in and around north Bedfordshire   and it will make it easier for motorists to travel to and from Bedford.’
