Clapham Cllr Jane Walker has finalised the projects that will benefit from her Borough Council Ward Fund for this year.

Included is a £7500 contribution to the new burial ground in the village.  Cllr Walker has been heavily involved in the process for the burial ground which is required as space for burials at Clapham Parish Church is decreasing.  The new burial ground is to be sited on land previously suggested for a Gypsy & Traveller site which has since been leased by the Borough Council to Clapham Parish Council.  Cllr Walker’s contribution will be used to cover costs for works including new fencing before the opening of the burial ground later this year.

Cllr Walker also made a contribution of £1500 for the re-instatement of the footpath outside Wright House.  Previously a layby was in place which meant that pedestrians had to walk out into the road if cars were parked in the way, raising safety concerns from local residents.  Cllr Walker’s contribution allowed the scheme to proceed sooner than was planned under the Borough Council’s schedule of works.

Cllr Walker said:

‘The old layby was an accident waiting to happen in that it forced pedestrians to walk out into the road if they wanted to get around parked vehicles.  The Parish Council and residents told me of their concerns about this so I was very keen to make a contribution from my Ward Fund to bring forward the re-instatement of the footpath.’
