The new street lighting scheme between Brookside homes and Budgens corner in Stagsden Road in Bromham has been completed. The old columns have been replaced with taller ones supplemented by additional posts. The result is a better lit road and a safer footpath.
Jon and I were asked by Jane Shields of Brookside Residents Association if it was possible for the lighting to be improved as residents were concerned about using Stagsden Road to Budgens corner footpath after dark. The subsequent Borough survey showed a lighting deficiency but the budget would not be available for some years.
To bring the scheme forward we made a strong case to the Borough Environment Portfolio holder and made a contribution from our ward fund.
Roger commented ‘the new lighting benefits not only the many residents living in Brookside but all adjacent residents in that stretch of road. It was a real team effort to get the scheme designed and installed giving that stretch of Stagsden Road a similar standard of street lighting as to the Bromham Swan where we were able earlier to get an additional street light installed at Village Road junction making pedestrian crossing safer’.
