Bedford Borough Council has failed to acknowledge the efforts of a former councillor in bringing forward the planned café for Priory Country Park, according to Newnham Cllr Gianni Carofano.
Former Newnham Cllr Kristy Adams argued tirelessly from 2011 to 2015 for a café facility. The café is now set to become a reality as a tender process is underway to choose a management team. The Council, however, neglected to mention Cllr Adams’ contribution in its press release this week and instead attributed the credit to the Mayor.
Cllr Carofano is a member of the panel currently interviewing applicants wishing to run the café.
‘A huge amount of credit should be given to former Newnham Cllr Kristy Adams who campaigned for 4 years for the Priory Country Park café to come to fruition.
‘During this time Cllr Adams attended 68 meetings and encountered endless Council bureaucracy in trying to convince officers of the merits of having a community facility in Priory Country Park. It is great news that the café is now coming forward, but it is down to Cllr Adams’ dedication that it has become a reality.’
