Our very own Councillor John Wheeler has been busy this week doing some great work in his Wootton Ward.
Councillor Wheeler recently met up with Bedford Borough Council’s Highways team to resolve the ongoing safety concerns at Fields Road.
The road has no white lining, which has resulted in cars cutting corners and drifting into the middle of the road, potentially endangering both themselves and pedestrians.
More worryingly, children frequently cross the road on their way to school where they are forced to contend with morning traffic and speeding cars. Without a Pedestrian Crossing there is no safe way for children to cross, thereby increasing safety issues. Locally, schools have conducted assemblies on the dangers of Fields Road and many parents personally expressed their concerns to Councillor Wheeler.
It is therefore great news that Councillor Wheeler has managed to work with the Borough Council to get white lining on the road to assist traffic soon. He is also working closely with the Highways team to get the Pedestrian Crossing installed this year to ensure children have a safe way to and from school.
Additionally, this week saw the new Special Educational Needs unit for vulnerable children using Wootton Lower School near completion with the school hopeful the unit will be fully functional at the start of the new term. Councillor Wheeler worked closely with both the Head/Deputy Head of Wootton Lower School and Bedford Borough Council’s Education team to ensure this important facility was completed on time.
Cllr Wheeler commented “It is good to see these outstanding issues being resolved, there is still lots more to do in Wootton, but I along with Wootton Parish Council, are working with the Borough Council to get them resolved sooner rather than later”.
