Cllr Graeme Coombes has spoken to the Bedfordshire on Sunday of Wixams residents’ ‘disappointment’ that plans for a train station serving the development seem to have stalled.
Construction of the development started in 2007 but residents are still waiting for the train station and other key facilities, such as a GP surgery, to be progressed. The development is said to be 3 years behind schedule with only 1 of the 5 villages having been built to date.
On plans for the train station, Cllr Coombes told the newspaper:
‘We were promised a new train station and it seems to be a cause of big disappointment for many people that it still has not happened yet.
‘No-one has got the cash at the moment and it is going to cost a fortune but there has also been some talk that Network Rail is not just allowed to add on a new station to a franchise once it has been negotiated.
‘At the moment I am trying to get a meeting with Network Rail to see where we can go from here.'
