Cllr Alison Foster has written to the Times & Citizen to rebut a claim made by the Mayor that the Council has invested in new classroom facilities in the Borough when the funding has actually been provided by the Government.
The text of her letter is reproduced below:
‘Is it really necessary for Mayor Dave Hodgson to have his photo taken at the opening of each and every new school classroom in the Borough (T & C, February 5)? The Mayor said in your article ‘we are investing heavily’ in permanent classrooms implying that these new classrooms have been made possible through Borough investment. However this is not the case. The Borough has not put its hand in its own pocket as the Mayor would have us believe. The £4.8m funding for these new classrooms in 2014/15 at our schools has been provided entirely by the Government. So why does the Mayor not acknowledge this?’
