The Department for Transport’s Bikeablity Trust have offered Bedford Borough Council £71,756 for 2022/2023 Bikeablity training for children in school. This is significantly up from last year.
More children will have access to cycling lessons which range from learning to ride to learning how to cycle safely on roads. Bedford Borough Council have said this funding will make lessons available to 3,000 children. These sessions will be outsourced and delivered by an external provider.
Great Barford Councillor, Phillippa Martin-Moran-Bryant commented “I welcome this Government funding to teach Bedford’s children safe cycling, allowing them the enjoyment of learning a new skill that gives them mobility, a chance to plan their own journeys with the knowledge they are protecting the environment.
This is excellent complimentary funding alongside the other Government funded Holiday’s Activities and Food Programme as well as £16m funding boost for education.
