Bedford Borough Council has been allocated £988,590 to end Rough Sleeping in the borough by the close of this parliament.
This funding can deliver move-on homes for rough sleepers in Bedford, as well as a team of specialist support staff helping tackle their underlying issues and getting people off the streets for good.
Great Denham Ward Councillor Jim Weir Commented: “The Government is making good on its manifesto commitment to end rough sleeping by the close of this parliamentary term.
Bedford Borough Council is working to reduce rough sleeping and this continued funding will ensure the programme can go on tackling not only homelessness but the mental health and substance abuse issues that impact on some rough sleepers.
It is concerning that some rough sleepers do not want support, the Borough will need to raise its game going forward to help this vulnerable group of people off our streets.
