Cllr Alison Foster has expressed her dismay that a Bedford Borough Council scheme designed to help residents recycle over the Christmas period has neglected the rural areas.
The Council is offering more orange recycling sacks at sites across the Borough from the 15th December 2014 and the 9th January 2015 although none of them are located in the villages to the north and east of Bedford.
The sacks can be picked up at the following sites: Bedford Central Library; Putnoe Library; Wootton Library; Bromham Library; Kempston Town Library; Customer Service Centre (Horne Lane, Bedford), and; Household Waste Recycling Centre (Barkers Lane, Bedford).
Cllr Foster said:
‘While I am delighted to see the Borough is to provide residents with free rolls of recycling bags over the Christmas period I am disappointed to see that yet again they have not thought to roll this scheme out to the larger north Beds villages such as Harrold, Sharnbrook, Wymington, Carlton, Great Barford and Roxton for example.
‘It is about time this Lib Dem/Labour coalition that runs our Borough gave thought to our rural areas; had they done so they could have arranged to leave supplies in village shops, post offices and pubs to make it easier for rural residents to collect.’
